The three elements of Loop

Loop components are portable pieces of content that stay in sync across all the places they are shared. Components allow you to collaborate in the flow of work – on a Loop page or in a chat, email, meeting, or document. They can be lists, tables, notes, and more – you’re always working with the latest information in your preferred app, like Microsoft Teams, Outlook, Word, Whiteboard, and the Loop app.

Loop pages are flexible canvases in the Loop app where you can bring together people and all your components, links, tasks, and data. Loop pages can start small and continue to grow to match the size of your ideas. Loop pages can be shared across M365 apps as a link or as an embedded Loop component.

Loop workspaces are shared spaces that allow you and your team to see and group everything important to your project, making it easy for you to catch up on what everyone is working on and track progress toward shared goals.

Microsoft Loop is a transformative co-creation experience that brings together teams, content and tasks across your tools and devices. Loop combines a powerful and flexible canvas with portable components that move freely and stay in sync across applications — enabling teams to think, plan, and create together.

  • Error: Oops! We couldn’t save the Loop workspace and pages you’ve created.They’ll be lost as soon as you refresh or navigate away from this page. Copy anything from them you want to keep and paste it somewhere else. Then, please try to create this workspace again.

    • Possible solutions (using Loop with your Microsoft Account):

      • You need to sign into outlook.com with your Microsoft Account. Once you’ve signed in one time, everything that Loop needs from Outlook can be set up the next time you try to use Loop.

    • Possible solutions (using Loop with your Organization ID):

      • You need to have an Exchange Online mailbox associated with your Organization ID. Once you’ve been provisioned an Exchange Online mailbox, and you’ve signed into it one time, everything that Loop needs from Exchange Online can be set up the next time you try to use Loop. Work with your Microsoft 365 administrator or your help desk to ensure you have an active Exchange Online mailbox.

      • You need to have at least read access to your organization’s SharePoint Online root site. We are working on a long-term solution to not require this. Until then, work with your Microsoft 365 administrator or your help desk to ensure you have a minimum of read access to the root site.

Today we’re also announcing an entirely new experience: Business Chat. Business Chat works across the LLM, the Microsoft 365 apps, and your data — your calendar, emails, chats, documents, meetings and contacts — to do things you’ve never been able to do before. You can give it natural language prompts like “Tell my team how we updated the product strategy,” and it will generate a status update based on the morning’s meetings, emails and chat threads.

With Copilot, you’re always in control. You decide what to keep, modify or discard. Now, you can be more creative in Word, more analytical in Excel, more expressive in PowerPoint, more productive in Outlook and more collaborative in Teams.

Microsoft 365 Copilot transforms work in three ways:

Unleash creativity. With Copilot in Word, you can jump-start the creative process so you never start with a blank slate again. Microsoft Copilot for Microsoft 365 requirements

The integration of Microsoft Copilot for Microsoft 365 and Microsoft 365 Apps enables Copilot experiences to take place inside individual apps, such as Word, PowerPoint, Teams, Excel, Outlook, and more. As a result of this integration, the requirements for using Microsoft Copilot for Microsoft 365 are nearly identical to the requirements for using Microsoft 365 Apps.

Prerequisites

The following are the prerequisites for using Microsoft Copilot for Microsoft 365. Copilot for Microsoft 365 requires the user to have a prerequisite base license assigned. You can find the list of eligible base licenses in the Microsoft Copilot for Microsoft 365 service description guide.

Microsoft 365 Apps

Microsoft 365 Apps must be deployed. Use the Microsoft 365 Apps setup guide in the Microsoft 365 admin center to deploy to your users.

Note

Microsoft Entra ID

Users must have Microsoft Entra ID (formerly Azure Active Directory) accounts. You can add or sync users using the onboarding wizard in the Microsoft 365 admin center.

Microsoft OneDrive

Some features in Microsoft Copilot for Microsoft 365, such as file restore and OneDrive management, require that users have a OneDrive account. You can use the OneDrive setup guide in the Microsoft 365 admin center to enable OneDrive for your users.

Microsoft Outlook

Microsoft Copilot for Microsoft 365 works with the new Outlook (for Windows and Mac), which are currently in preview. Users can switch to the new Outlook by selecting Try the new Outlook in their existing Outlook client.

To have Copilot appear in the new Outlook, you need to sync your Microsoft 365 settings. To do this, go to View and manage your Microsoft 365 settings.

Microsoft Copilot for Microsoft 365 will be supported on classic Outlook for Windows (Win32 desktop app) in the future. You can review the roadmap item here.

Microsoft Teams

You can use the Microsoft Teams setup guide in the Microsoft 365 admin center to configure popular Teams settings, including external access, guest access, team creation permissions, and more. Copilot in Teams is available on Windows, Mac, web, Android, and iOS.

To enable Copilot in Teams to reference meeting content after the meeting has ended, transcription or meeting recording must be enabled. To learn more about configuring transcription and recording, see Configure transcription and captions for Teams meetings and Teams meeting recording.

Microsoft Loop

To use Microsoft Copilot for Microsoft 365 with Microsoft Loop, you must have Loop enabled for your tenant. This can be done in the Microsoft 365 admin center or the Microsoft 365 Apps admin center under Customization | Policy Management. Microsoft Whiteboard

To use Microsoft Copilot for Microsoft 365 with Microsoft Whiteboard, you must have Whiteboard enabled for your tenant. To learn more about Microsoft Whiteboard, see Manage access to Microsoft Whiteboard for your organization.

License requirements

Copilot for Microsoft 365 is an add-on plan with the following licensing prerequisites:

  • Microsoft 365 A3 for faculty

You can use the Microsoft Copilot for Microsoft 365 setup guide in the Microsoft 365 admin center to assign the required licenses to users. For more information, see Assign licenses to users in the Microsoft 365 admin center.

Update channels

Microsoft Copilot for Microsoft 365 will follow Microsoft 365 Apps’ standard practice for deployment and updates, being available in all update channels, except for Semi-annual channel. Preview channels include Insiders, Current Channel – Preview and Beta Channel. Production channels include Current Channel and then Monthly Enterprise Channel.

Copilot is available in Current Channel, and starting December 12, on Monthly Enterprise Channel. As always, preview channels are a great option to validate the product before rolling out to the rest of organization. Network requirements

Copilot services connect to endpoints contained within the Microsoft 365 endpoint taxonomy. As with all Microsoft 365 services, we recommend that customers align their network with the Microsoft 365 network connectivity principles. This helps provide the best experience with Copilot through minimization of latency and increased network quality of service for critical network flows.

There are many Copilot experiences, including some core experiences like Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams, and Loop, that use WebSocket connections (wss://) from the device running the Microsoft 365 app to a Microsoft service. So, to use these Copilot experiences, WebSocket connections must be allowed from user endpoints to the endpoints listed in our endpoint taxonomy, specifically in ID number 147 in the section for Microsoft 365 Common and Office Online.

Conditional Access

While Copilot supports Conditional Access Policies in SharePoint Online configured to target “all cloud apps” or “Office 365 group,” Microsoft Copilot does not currently support Conditional Access policies configured to the SharePoint Online app directly. We anticipate deploying a change in coming weeks.

Restricted Access Control

Microsoft Copilot does not currently support Restricted Access Control and Microsoft Purview Information Barriers (Implicit and Owner moderated mode) on sites. Support for both policies is intended.  We anticipate deploying a change in coming weeks.

What’s new in Windows Server 2022

Security

The new security capabilities in Windows Server 2022 combine other security capabilities in Windows Server across multiple areas to provide defense-in-depth protection against advanced threats. Advanced multi-layer security in Windows Server 2022 provides the comprehensive protection that servers need today.

 

Secured-core server

Certified Secured-core server hardware from an OEM partner provides additional security protections that are useful against sophisticated attacks. This can provide increased assurance when handling mission critical data in some of the most data sensitive industries. A Secured-core server uses hardware, firmware, and driver capabilities to enable advanced Windows Server security features. Many of these features are available in Windows Secured-core PCs and are now also available with Secured-core server hardware and Windows Server 2022.

 

Hardware root-of-trust

Trusted Platform Module 2.0 (TPM 2.0) secure crypto-processor chips provide a secure, hardware-based store for sensitive cryptographic keys and data, including systems integrity measurements. TPM 2.0 can verify that the server has been started with legitimate code and can be trusted by subsequent code execution. This is known as a hardware root-of-trust and is used by features such as BitLocker drive encryption.

 

Virtualization-based security (VBS)

Secured-core servers support virtualization-based security (VBS) and hypervisor-based code integrity (HVCI). VBS uses hardware virtualization features to create and isolate a secure region of memory from the normal operating system, protecting against an entire class of vulnerabilities used in cryptocurrency mining attacks. VBS also allows for the use of Credential Guard, where user credentials and secrets are stored in a virtual container that the operating system cannot access directly.

 

Firmware protection

Firmware executes with high privileges and is often invisible to traditional anti-virus solutions, which has lead to a rise in the number of firmware-based attacks. Secured-core server processors support measurement and verification of boot processes with Dynamic Root of Trust for Measurement (DRTM) technology and isolation of driver access to memory with Direct Memory Access (DMA) protection.

HVCI uses VBS to significantly strengthen code integrity policy enforcement, including kernel mode integrity which checks all kernel mode drivers and binaries in a virtualized environment before they are started, preventing unsigned drivers or system files from being loaded into system memory.

Secure connectivity

Transport: HTTPS and TLS 1.3 enabled by default on Windows Server 2022

Secure connections are at the heart of today’s interconnected systems. Transport Layer Security (TLS) 1.3 is the latest version of the internet’s most deployed security protocol, which encrypts data to provide a secure communication channel between two endpoints. HTTPS and TLS 1.3 is now enabled by default on Windows Server 2022, protecting the data of clients connecting to the server. It eliminates obsolete cryptographic algorithms, enhances security over older versions, and aims to encrypt as much of the handshake as possible. Server Message Block (SMB): SMB AES-256 encryption for the most security conscious

Windows Server now supports AES-256-GCM and AES-256-CCM cryptographic suites for SMB encryption and signing. Windows will automatically negotiate this more advanced cipher method when connecting to another computer that also supports it, and it can also be mandated through Group Policy. Windows Server still supports AES-128 for down-level compatibility.

 

Secure DNS: Encrypted DNS name resolution requests with DNS-over-HTTPS

DNS Client in Windows Server 2022 now supports DNS-over-HTTPS (DoH) which encrypts DNS queries using the HTTPS protocol. This helps keep your traffic as private as possible by preventing eavesdropping and your DNS data being manipulated. Learn more about configuring the DNS client to use DoH.

 

SMB: East-West SMB encryption controls for internal cluster communications

Windows Server failover clusters now support granular control of encrypting and signing intra-node storage communications for Cluster Shared Volumes (CSV) and the storage bus layer (SBL). This means that when using Storage Spaces Direct, you can decide to encrypt or sign east-west communications within the cluster itself for higher security.

 

SMB Direct and RDMA encryption

SMB Direct and RDMA supply high bandwidth, low latency networking fabric for workloads like Storage Spaces Direct, Storage Replica, Hyper-V, Scale-out File Server, and SQL Server. SMB Direct in Windows Server 2022 now supports encryption. Previously, enabling SMB encryption disabled direct data placement; this was intentional, but seriously impacted performance. Now data is encrypted data before placement, leading to far less performance degradation while adding AES-128 and AES-256 protected packet privacy.

 

SMB over QUIC

SMB over QUIC updates the SMB 3.1.1 protocol in Windows Server 2022 Datacenter: Azure Edition and supported Windows clients to use the QUIC protocol instead of TCP. By using SMB over QUIC along with TLS 1.3, users and applications can securely and reliably access data from edge file servers running in Azure. Mobile and telecommuter users no longer need a VPN to access their file servers over SMB when on Windows. More information can be found at the SMB over QUIC documentation.

Azure hybrid capabilities

You can increase your efficiency and agility with built-in hybrid capabilities in Windows Server 2022 that allow you to extend your data centers to Azure more easily than ever before.

 

Azure Arc enabled Windows Servers

Azure Arc enabled servers with Windows Server 2022 brings on-premises and multi-cloud Windows Servers to Azure with Azure Arc. This management experience is designed to be consistent with how you manage native Azure virtual machines. When a hybrid machine is connected to Azure, it becomes a connected machine and is treated as a resource in Azure. More information can be found at the Azure Arc enables servers documentation.

 

Windows Admin Center

Improvements to Windows Admin Center to manage Windows Server 2022 include capabilities to both report on the current state of the Secured-core features mentioned above, and where applicable, allow customers to enable the features. Windows-Server-2022

Application platform

There are several platform improvements for Windows Containers, including application compatibility and the Windows Container experience with Kubernetes. A major improvement includes reducing the Windows Container image size by up to 40%, which leads to a 30% faster startup time and better performance.

You can now also run applications that depend on Azure Active Directory with group Managed Services Accounts (gMSA) without domain joining the container host, and Windows Containers now support Microsoft Distributed Transaction Control (MSDTC) and Microsoft Message Queuing (MSMQ).

There are several other enhancements that simplify the Windows Container experience with Kubernetes. These enhancements include support for host-process containers for node configuration, IPv6, and consistent network policy implementation with Calico.

In addition to platform improvements, Windows Admin Center has been updated to make it easy to containerize .NET applications. Once the application is in a container, you can host it on Azure Container Registry to then deploy it to other Azure services, including Azure Kubernetes Service.

With support for Intel Ice Lake processors, Windows Server 2022 supports business-critical and large-scale applications, such as SQL Server, that require up to 48 TB of memory and 2,048 logical cores running on 64 physical sockets. Confidential computing with Intel Secured Guard Extension (SGX) on Intel Ice Lake improves application security by isolating applications from each other with protected memory.

 

Azure Automanage – Hotpatch

Hotpatch, part of Azure Automanage, is supported in Windows Server 2022 Datacenter: Azure Edition. Hotpatching is a new way to install updates on new Windows Server Azure Edition virtual machines (VMs) that doesn’t require a reboot after installation. Nested virtualization for AMD processors

Nested virtualization is a feature that allows you to run Hyper-V inside of a Hyper-V virtual machine (VM). Windows Server 2022 brings support for nested virtualization using AMD processors, giving more choices of hardware for your environments. Microsoft Edge browser

Microsoft Edge is included with Windows Server 2022, replacing Internet Explorer. It is built on Chromium open source and backed by Microsoft security and innovation. Significantly, Windows Server 2022 includes UDP Segmentation Offload (USO). USO moves most of the work required to send UDP packets from the CPU to the network adapter’s specialized hardware. Complimenting USO is UDP Receive Side Coalescing (UDP RSC), which coalesces packets and reduces CPU usage for UDP processing. In addition, we have also made hundreds of improvements to the UDP data path both transmit and receive. Windows Server 2022 and Windows 11 both have this new capability.

 

Hyper-V virtual switch improvements

Virtual switches in Hyper-V have been enhanced with updated Receive Segment Coalescing (RSC). This allows the hypervisor network to coalesce packets and process as one larger segment. CPU cycles are reduced and segments will remain coalesced across the entire data path until processed by the intended application. This means improved performance in both network traffic from an external host, received by a virtual NIC, as well as from a virtual NIC to another virtual NIC on the same host.

 

TCP performance improvements

Windows Server 2022 uses TCP HyStart++ to reduce packet loss during connection start-up (especially in high-speed networks) and RACK to reduce Retransmit TimeOuts (RTO). These features are enabled in the transport stack by default and provide a smoother network data flow with better performance at high speeds. Windows Server 2022 and Windows 11 both have this new capability.

Storage

Storage Migration Service

Enhancements to Storage Migration Service in Windows Server 2022 makes it easier to migrate storage to Windows Server or to Azure from more source locations. Here are the features that are available when running the Storage Migration Server orchestrator on Windows Server 2022:

 

Storage bus cache with Storage Spaces on standalone servers

Storage bus cache is now available for standalone servers. It can significantly improve read and write performance, while maintaining storage efficiency and keeping the operational costs low. Similar to its implementation for Storage Spaces Direct, this feature binds together faster media (for example, NVMe or SSD) with slower media (for example, HDD) to create tiers. Migrate local users and groups to the new server.

  • Migrate storage from failover clusters, migrate to failover clusters, and migrate between standalone servers and failover clusters.
  • Migrate storage from a Linux server that uses Samba.
  • More easily synchronize migrated shares into Azure by using Azure File Sync.
  • Migrate to new networks such as Azure.
  • Migrate NetApp CIFS servers from NetApp FAS arrays to Windows servers and clusters.
  • Adjustable storage repair speed

User adjustable storage repair speed is a new feature in Storage Spaces Direct that offers more control over the data resync process by allocating resources to either repair data copies (resiliency) or run active workloads (performance). This helps improve availability and allows you to service your clusters more flexibly and efficiently.

 

SMB compression

Enhancement to SMB in Windows Server 2022 and Windows 11 allows a user or application to compress files as they transfer over the network. Users no longer have to manually zip files in order to transfer much faster on slower or more congested networks. For details, see SMB Compression.

Hardware requirements for Windows Server

The minimum hardware requirements to run Windows Server. If your computer has less than the minimum requirements, you will not be able to install this product correctly. Actual requirements will vary based on your system configuration and the applications and features you install, Unless otherwise specified, these minimum hardware requirements apply to all installation options (Server Core and Server with Desktop Experience) and both Standard and Datacenter editions.

The highly diverse scope of potential deployments makes it unrealistic to state recommended hardware requirements that would be generally applicable. Processor

Processor performance depends not only on the clock frequency of the processor, but also on the number of processor cores and the size of the processor cache. The following are the processor requirements for this product:

Minimum:

  • 4 GHz 64-bit processor
  • Compatible with x64 instruction set
  • Supports NX and DEP
  • Supports CMPXCHG16b, LAHF/SAHF, and PrefetchW
  • Supports Second Level Address Translation (EPT or NPT)

Coreinfo, part of Windows Sysinternals, is a tool you can use to confirm which of these capabilities your CPU has.

RAM

The following are the estimated RAM requirements for this product:

Minimum:

  • 512 MB (2 GB for Server with Desktop Experience installation option)
  • ECC (Error Correcting Code) type or similar technology, for physical host deployments

Storage controller and disk space requirements

Computers that run Windows Server must include a storage adapter that is compliant with the PCI Express architecture specification. Persistent storage devices on servers classified as hard disk drives must not be PATA. Windows Server does not allow ATA/PATA/IDE/EIDE for boot, page, or data drives.

The following are the estimated minimum disk space requirements for the system partition.

Network adapter requirements

Network adapters used with this release should include these features:

Minimum:

  • An ethernet adapter capable of at least 1 gigabit per second throughput
  • Compliant with the PCI Express architecture specification.

A network adapter that supports network debugging (KDNet) is useful, but not a minimum requirement.

A network adapter that supports the Pre-boot Execution Environment (PXE) is useful, but not a minimum requirement.

Note

A Trusted Platform Module (TPM) chip is required in order to use certain features such as BitLocker Drive Encryption. If your computer uses TPM, it must meet these requirements:

  • Hardware-based TPMs must implement version 2.0 of the TPM specification.
  • TPMs that implement version 2.0 must have an EK certificate that is either pre-provisioned to the TPM by the hardware vendor or be capable of being retrieved by the device during the first boot.
  • TPMs that implement version 2.0 must ship with SHA-256 PCR banks and implement PCRs 0 through 23 for SHA-256. It is acceptable to ship TPMs with a single switchable PCR bank that can be used for both SHA-1 and SHA-256 measurements.

A UEFI option to turn off the TPM is not a requirement.

Other requirements

Computers running this release also must have the following:

Keeping Windows 11 up-to-date

As part of the effort to continually improve the Windows experience, software updates and fixes are created and released. These updates are delivered to your device during the device’s supported lifecycle.

Ensuring that your device is kept up to date is important for your device security and functionality. With an internet connection, Windows 11 will periodically check for updates so you don’t have to (ISP fees might apply). How to get Windows 11

Windows 11 will be delivered as an upgrade to eligible devices running Windows 10, beginning later in the 2021 calendar year. Windows 11 will also be available on eligible new devices.

For administrators managing devices on behalf of their organization, Windows 11 will be available through the same, familiar channels that you use today for Windows 10 feature updates. You will be able to use existing deployment and management tools, such as Windows Update for Business, Microsoft Endpoint Manager, and Windows Autopilot. Most Windows 10 PCs currently being sold will be able to upgrade to Windows 11. For the PC to be able to upgrade to Windows 11, it must meet the minimum hardware specifications and specific hardware is required for some features. The upgrade rollout plan is still being finalised but is scheduled to begin late in 2021 and continue into 2022. Specific timing will vary by device.

How do I know if a new Windows 10 PC meets the minimum requirements?

There are a few ways to find out. If you’re currently shopping for a new PC look for “Free upgrade to Windows 11″ on the fact tag. You can also ask your retail sales professional to confirm.

When will I be able to upgrade to Windows 11 on my Windows 10 device?

If your existing Windows 10 PC is running the most current version of Windows 10 and meets the minimum hardware specifications it will be able to upgrade to Windows 11. The upgrade rollout plan is still being finalised, but for most devices already in use today, we expect it to be ready sometime in early 2022. Not all Windows 10 PCs that are eligible to upgrade to Windows 11 will be offered to upgrade at the same time.   • Spatial Sound requires supporting hardware and software.
  • Teams requires video camera, microphone and speaker (audio output).
  • Touch requires a screen or monitor that supports multi-touch.
  • Two-factor Authentication requires use of PIN, biometric (fingerprint reader or illuminated infrared camera), or a phone with Wi-Fi or Bluetooth capabilities.
  • Voice Typing requires a PC with a microphone.
  • Wake on Voice requires Modern Standby power model and microphone.
  • Wi-Fi 6E requires new WLAN IHV hardware and driver and a Wi-Fi 6E capable AP/router.
  • Windows Hello requires a camera configured for near infrared (IR) imaging or fingerprint reader for biometric authentication. Devices without biometric sensors can use Windows Hello with a PIN or portable Microsoft compatible security key.
  • Windows Projection requires a display adapter which supports Windows Display Driver Model (WDDM) 2.0 and a Wi-Fi adapter that supports Wi-Fi Direct.

Keeping Windows 11 up-to-date

As part of the effort to continually improve the Windows experience, software updates and fixes are created and released. These updates are delivered to your device during the device’s supported lifecycle.

Ensuring that your device is kept up to date is important for your device security and functionality. With an internet connection, Windows 11 will periodically check for updates so you don’t have to (ISP fees might apply). You can check to see if there are any pending or optional updates available for your device by going to Settings | Update & Security | Windows Update.

It is important to ensure you have enough free storage space to install updates and you may need to check to see if your hardware is still supported by your Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM).

The size of the Windows operating system that comes with your device and the amount of free storage space needed to download and install Windows updates are highly variable as they depend on a variety of factors. Visit here to learn why. The factors that impact the amount of free space needed to take an update include: the versions of Windows previously installed on the machine; the amount of free storage space available from Windows files to reuse, such as the virtual memory pagefile or hibernation file; which applications are installed on your device; and how those applications store data. When updating, Windows will attempt to free up enough space automatically and to guide you through freeing up even more if the automatic clean-up is not sufficient. You can also take steps on your own to free up space.

Introduction

Windows 11 is the next evolution of Windows; it is the most significant update to the Windows operating system since Windows 10. It offers many innovations focused on enhancing end-user productivity in a fresh experience that is flexible and fluid. Windows 11 is designed to support today’s hybrid work environment, and intended to be the most reliable, secure, connected, and performant Windows operating system ever.

Windows 11 is built on the same foundation as Windows 10, so the investments you have made in tools for update and device management are carried forward. Windows 11 also sustains the application compatibility promise made with Windows 10, supplemented by programs like App Assure. For Microsoft 365 customers seeking further assistance, FastTrack will continue to be available to support your efforts to adopt Windows 11.

How to get Windows 11

Windows 11 will be delivered as an upgrade to eligible devices running Windows 10, beginning later in the 2021 calendar year. Windows 11 will also be available on eligible new devices.

For administrators managing devices on behalf of their organization, Windows 11 will be available through the same, familiar channels that you use today for Windows 10 feature updates. You will be able to use existing deployment and management tools, such as Windows Update for Business, Microsoft Endpoint Manager, and Windows Autopilot. For devices that are not managed by an organization, the Windows 11 upgrade will be offered to eligible Windows 10 devices through Windows Update using Microsoft’s intelligent rollout process to ensure a smooth upgrade experience.

I want to buy a PC now, will I be able to install Windows 11 later?

Most Windows 10 PCs currently being sold will be able to upgrade to Windows 11. For the PC to be able to upgrade to Windows 11, it must meet the minimum hardware specifications and specific hardware is required for some features. The upgrade rollout plan is still being finalised but is scheduled to begin late in 2021 and continue into 2022. Specific timing will vary by device.

How do I know if a new Windows 10 PC meets the minimum requirements?

There are a few ways to find out. If you’re currently shopping for a new PC look for “Free upgrade to Windows 11″ on the fact tag. You can also ask your retail sales professional to confirm.

When will I be able to upgrade to Windows 11 on my Windows 10 device?

If your existing Windows 10 PC is running the most current version of Windows 10 and meets the minimum hardware specifications it will be able to upgrade to Windows 11. The upgrade rollout plan is still being finalised, but for most devices already in use today, we expect it to be ready sometime in early 2022. Not all Windows 10 PCs that are eligible to upgrade to Windows 11 will be offered to upgrade at the same time. To see if your PC is eligible to upgrade, download and run the PC Health Check app. Once the upgrade rollout has started, you can check if it is ready for your device by going to Settings/Windows Updates.

Windows 365 is a cloud-based service that automatically creates a new type of Windows virtual machine (Cloud PCs) for your end users. It provides the productivity, security, and collaboration benefits of Microsoft 365. Windows 365 uses:

  • Microsoft Endpoint Manager to manage the Cloud PCs.
  • Azure Active Directory (Azure AD) for identity and access control.
  • Azure Virtual Desktop for remote connectivity.

Each Cloud PC is assigned to an individual user and is their dedicated Windows device. Assigning a Cloud PC to a user is just like assigning an Exchange Online mailbox to a user. When a Windows 365 license is assigned to a user, provisioning of a new Cloud PC automatically starts and the Cloud PC is enrolled into Microsoft Endpoint Management.

With the Windows 365 service, you can:

  • Automatically provision on-demand Windows Enterprise Cloud PCs for your users. Provisioning is the automatic creation of Cloud PCs for your end users. After you set up Cloud PC support in Microsoft Endpoint Manager, a Cloud PC is automatically provisioned whenever you assign a user with a Cloud PC license to an appropriate Azure AD user group. To set up Cloud PC support, you’ll:
    • Create on-premises network connections which are links between the Cloud PCs and your on-premises resources.
    • Choose a built-in, optimized Windows image (or create your own) to use as the basis for each Cloud PC.
  • Manage your Cloud PCs like your organization’s other devices in Microsoft Endpoint Manager. By default, Cloud PCs are joined to your enterprise Active Directory domain, synced to Azure Active Directory, and fully managed by Microsoft Endpoint Manager. Windows 365 is fully integrated into the Microsoft Endpoint Manager admin center. Cloud PCs are seamlessly managed in Microsoft Endpoint Manager like any other supported device, including configuration, apps, and updates.
  • Configure provisioning policies to create custom Cloud PC configurations.
  • Use device groups, policies, and security baselines to customize your Cloud PC configurations to support different user needs.
  • Pre-install apps in your custom Cloud PC image and push additional apps to them through Microsoft Endpoint Manager.

What is a Cloud PC?

A Cloud PC is a highly available, optimized, and scalable virtual machine providing end users with a rich Windows desktop experience. It’s hosted in the Windows 365 service and is accessible from anywhere, on any endpoint.

End users have a 1:1 relationship with their Cloud PC. It’s their own personal PC in the cloud. Users can connect to their Cloud PC by using windows365.microsoft.com. Browser and app-based access is available for Windows, Mac, iOS, and Android devices.

Creating a Cloud PC

Cloud PCs are created (provisioned) automatically by the Windows 365 service when an end user in an appropriate Azure AD user group is assigned a Windows 365 license.

Admins don’t manually create Cloud PCs.
